Pacific42 is a tile and waterproofing company built around the space between vision and finish.
That space matters.
It is where design becomes construction.
Where plans meet site conditions.
Where preparation determines performance.
Where small decisions shape the feeling of the finished room.
We work with homeowners, builders, designers, and project teams across Greater Victoria and surrounding areas, focusing on bathroom tile, shower tile, waterproofing, bathroom floors, heated floor preparation, backsplashes, and finishing-stage tile work.
Our role is to bring care, coordination, and craftsmanship to the details that connect the whole project together.
Pacific42 did not begin as a plan to simply start another tile company.
Before entering the trades, I spent years in client-focused financial services, working with individuals, families, professionals, and business owners. That experience shaped the way I understand service. When people are making important decisions, they need more than answers. They need trust, clear communication, consistency, and accountability.
Over time, I became drawn to work that felt more tangible. In financial services, much of the work is built around advice, planning, and future outcomes. I came to appreciate the honesty of working with my hands — creating something real, seeing the result directly, and being judged by the quality of the finished work.
My interest in tile began at home. After seeing tile repairs in my own house, I started asking questions. Why did this fail? What should have been done differently? How much of the final result depends on the work most people never see?
Those questions eventually led me onto job sites, where I began learning the trade through hands-on experience. Before starting Pacific42, I spent time building practical skills, understanding job-site expectations, and seeing how much discipline tile work requires — from preparation and layout to waterproofing, setting, grout, silicone, and final presentation.
During that time, I also saw how much a project can be affected when communication, planning, or accountability breaks down. Good tradespeople, builders, homeowners, and design teams often want the same thing: a result that is done properly and feels right when the project is complete. But good results depend on the details being understood, coordinated, and respected.
That belief became the foundation for Pacific42.
By combining the service standards I developed in financial services with practical field experience, I saw an opportunity to build a tile company that offers more than installation alone — a company that can help connect design intent, technical preparation, and finish quality.
Pacific42 was built for that space between.

At first glance, Pacific42 may sound like a simple name. But it carries two layers of meaning.
The number 42 is often known as “the answer to the ultimate question.” For Pacific42, it is not about pretending to have every answer. It is a quiet reminder to ask better questions, look deeper than the surface, and approach each project with thought, purpose, and care.
There is also a second meaning hidden in the name.
In Korean, the numbers 4 and 2 are pronounced “sah” and “ee.” Together, they form “sah-ee” — 사이 — a Korean word that means “between.”
That gives Pacific42 another meaning: 태평양 사이 — the space between shores of the Pacific.
For us, that space between matters. It represents journeys, experiences, and ways of working carried across the Pacific. It reflects the connection between different places, cultures, and standards of craft.
It also speaks directly to the work we do: the space between what people see on the surface and the preparation that gives the finish its strength, quality, and value.
Pacific42 connects the discipline of professional service with the hands-on craft of tile work. It connects design intent with practical execution. It connects careful preparation with a finished space that feels refined, balanced, and built to last.
For us, the name is not just a brand. It is a standard: to work with clarity, respect, and attention to everything that happens between the first conversation and the final finish.

There is a quiet philosophy behind how we see tile work.
A single tile may seem like one small part of a larger project, but it carries more meaning than its size suggests. Its position, proportion, cut, texture, alignment, and relationship to the pieces around it all affect the way a space is experienced.
In that sense, each tile is like a monad — a complete unit with its own place, purpose, and internal order.
But the meaning of tile work is not found in one piece alone. It is found in how many individual pieces come together to form a larger whole. A wall, a floor, a shower, or a bathroom becomes its own complete expression, shaped by countless small decisions that must work together with care.
This is how Pacific42 approaches each project. We pay attention to the individual piece, but we never lose sight of the whole.
The goal is not simply to install tile. It is to create a finished space where preparation, proportion, function, and feeling come together as one.
Integrity
We believe good trade work should be built on more than skill alone. Integrity means doing the work with the right standards, including the details that may no longer be visible once the tile is installed.
Respect
We respect the homes we work in, the people who live in them, and the project teams we work alongside. Whether we are working directly with a homeowner or as part of a larger construction team, we believe good work starts with respect for the space, the client, the schedule, and the craft itself.
Clarity
Clear expectations create better outcomes. We aim to communicate openly about scope, site conditions, limitations, responsibilities, timelines, and details that may affect the final result.
Accountability
We take responsibility for the work we perform and the role we play in each project. From preparation and waterproofing details to installation and finishing, Pacific42 is built around care, follow-through, and ownership of our workmanship.
